We invite the community associated with geomagnetic field observations to attend the VI Escola Latino-Americana de Geomagnetismo "Luiz Muniz Barreto" - VI ELAG workshop to be held in Vassouras, Rio de Janeiro State in Brazil, from 25th to 30 November 2007. This School is named after Late Muniz Barreto, the former Brazilian representative at IPGH who also served as the director of Observatorio Nacional-ON for several years. The ELAG school will be held for the first time in Brazil. The main objective of this meeting to organize Magnetic Observatory Practice and scientific sessions for the professional and the students from Latin America and other parts of the world engaged in the studies of geomagnetism. At the VI ELAG we want to emphasize on the participation of students, as the Latin America Geomagnetic community is aging and students are seen as the future for Latin America. Several outstanding international scientists are being invited to give tutorials and review talks on the topics to be covered by ELAG.

Topics of the School: It is proposed that ELAG will consist of two parts, Viz. Geomagnetic measurements and scientific sessions. The following main topics will be discussed at the ELAG in Vassouras.

  1. Geomagnetic observatory practice
  2. Magnetic charts
  3. Secular variations
  4. Geomagnetism and applications
  5. Geomagnetic Instrumentation
  6. Data processing
  7. Other topics

Mini-courses:

Instrument practices for magnetic observatories - Jean Rasson
Fundamentals of rock magnetism for understanding magnetic anomalies - Minoru Funaki
Solar observations to the Azimuth determination - Procedures and computation - Alan Berarducci
The Space Environment and the solar-terrestrial Physics - Odim Mendes Junior
